Don’t steal a man’s car and kill his dog. You might just make things personal.
A story about a renowned assassin in the underworld who has had enough of his dark life. He falls in love and settles down, having finally escaped the syndicate; that’s what he thought! Soon after his wife dies and he falls into misery, as if time has stopped for him. His time starts flowing again and receives a semblance of hope when he receives a final gift from his dead wife, a puppy. This doesn’t last long though, as a foolish “child” commits the most deadly mistake he has ever made or will make; steal John Wick’s car and kill his dog. The past really never leaves you. It always comes back, again and again to haunt you.
John Wick is a legend in the underworld! There isn’t a single person who doesn’t shiver on hearing his name. He is a man of focus, commitment and sheer will; he will always get the job done! You don’t want your name to be in his hit list. If you see a man with long black sleek hair, focused eyes as if seeing your very soul and wearing an elegant suit walking towards you, don’t do anything as there is nothing you can even do. Just pray.
The movies were really good. Lots of action, blood and deaths, lots of deaths. John Wick doesn’t just immobilize his victims but always ends it with a bullet to the head, and sometimes a second just to make sure. The story progressed nicely but there was a lack of suspense. The way John Wick has been portrayed, a death god, really kills the suspense and anticipation. There wasn’t a single moment or fight scene where I though he would get killed or fail his mission. I already knew, felt, he would win. The only thing that got me hooked and kept on watching was seeing how! A hand to hand close combat? A long distance sniper shot? Or just complete annihilation with a machine gun? How would John Wick finish his target off!
The ending of the first movie was, meh, just ok. It was a typical sort of ending to such movies. Chapter 2, on the other hand, had my heart racing! This was the one time I thought John Wick could die! He had broken the rule of The Continental. Luckily he managed to survive, if you call having an international contract for killing you and having all privileges and access to all underground facilities stripped away surviving. But I have a feeling he’ll make it. He is Baba Yaga!
My favourite line from the movie is when Viggo Tarasov says:
“I once saw him kill three men in a bar… with a pencil, with a fucking pencil.”
This line by Winston probably best summarizes John Wick:
“You stabbed the devil in the back and forced him back into the life that he had just left. You incinerated the priest’s temple. Burned it to the ground. Now he’s free of the marker, what do you think he’ll do? He had a glimpse of the other side and he embraced it. But you, Signor D’Antonio… took it away from him.”
